Evidence #002
The Surveillance Camera
Status:Relevant
Location:Kitchen Office
Date:14 October
Time Range:3:35 PM - 4:30 PM
Description
The kitchen office normally has a security camera positioned above the entrance. The camera detects and records any and all movement in and out of the office and is intended to provide additional security for the school's confidential documents and dangerous equipment.
Initial Observations
- The camera was functioning normally earlier that day.
- The camera stopped recording at 3:35 PM.
- The camera remained offline until approximately 4:30 PM.
- There is no recorder footage of the kitchen office during this period.
- No damage was found on the camera.
- The camera appears to have been deliberately disabled as part of a scheduled maintenance.
Examination Notes
The school's maintenance records confirm that the camera was scheduled for routine maintenance on 14 October. However, the maintenance was not performed until after 4:30 PM, which is after the time the recipe was reported missing. The camera's offline period coincides with the time frame in which the recipe was taken, suggesting that the camera may have been intentionally disabled to facilitate the theft.
The maintenance request had been made several days before the incident.
Connection to the Case
The camera being offline created a 55-minute window during which acivity inside the kithen office could not be recorded. This period of time is critical to the investigation, as it coincides with the time frame in which the recipe was reported missing. The camera's offline status raises questions about whether the maintenance was a cover for someone to access the office without being recorded.
Investigator's Note
The camera was switched off before the recipe was placed in the office. Determine which suspects could reansonably have know about the maintenance.
